Welcome to the digital keeping place for the Proper History Project.

This site collects information about Western and Central Cape York Peninsula history, heritage, and Country.  It is mainly designed to help communities in western and central Cape to access historical and cultural information about their homelands and the wider CYP area.

The project reflects work since the early 2000s by a group of Elders, community members and researchers working to produce a hub for researching the history of the western and central Cape York Peninsula region. The keeping place will store both public and private materials, as well as research summaries, digital exhibitions and galleries.

This site emerges from a long-term research collaboration and an ethically approved research program designed with and for the community to record their heritage and history.
